{"id":1934,"date":"2016-07-11T13:20:38","date_gmt":"2016-07-11T12:20:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sqablogs.lndo.site\/computing\/?p=1934"},"modified":"2016-07-11T13:20:38","modified_gmt":"2016-07-11T12:20:38","slug":"mathematics-in-computing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.qualifications.gov.scot\/computing-digital\/mathematics-in-computing\/","title":{"rendered":"Mathematics in Computing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Maths team, in SQA, recently reviewed a number of Maths units within group awards, such as <em>HNC Computing<\/em>, to check that their levels and contents are right. The outcome is that a number of units are going to be revised. Some of those units are within Computing qualifications. The SCQF Level of the units won&#8217;t change but their contents will. Most will be &#8220;levelled up&#8221; to ensure the maths is pitched at the correct level.<\/p>\n<p>I will convene a Short Life Working Group, early in the new session, to take this forward. This SLWG will focus on the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What changes are\u00a0needed to the current Maths units within HN Computing awards?<\/li>\n<li>What maths is essential for all (advanced) Computing qualifications?<\/li>\n<li>What Maths units need to be added to <em>HND Computer Science<\/em>?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Either the existing units will be revised or new units will be created or a combination of these. I&#8217;ll keep you posted <em>via<\/em> this blog. None of the changes will take effect before <strong>session 2017\/18<\/strong>. So next year will be business as usual. Please <a href=\"mailto:helen.zhang@sqa.org.uk\">contact Helen<\/a> if you&#8217;re interested in serving on the SLWG.<\/p>\n<p>In a related, but separate, development we&#8217;re working on two new maths-related units for <em>HNC\/D Computer Games Development<\/em>. One will be generic and one will be dedicated to computer games.
