{"id":223,"date":"2013-07-12T15:59:00","date_gmt":"2013-07-12T14:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sqablogs.lndo.site\/computing\/2013\/07\/12\/new-verification-groups\/"},"modified":"2013-07-12T15:59:00","modified_gmt":"2013-07-12T14:59:00","slug":"new-verification-groups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.qualifications.gov.scot\/computing-digital\/new-verification-groups\/","title":{"rendered":"New verification groups"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve mentioned on a couple of occasions the <a href=\"http:\/\/sqacomputing.blogspot.co.uk\/2012\/01\/royal-society-report-on-computing-in.html\">Royal Society report on Computing in schools<\/a>. One of the key recommendations from that report was to do with naming the subject. I <a href=\"http:\/\/sqacomputing.blogspot.co.uk\/2013\/04\/changing-names.html\">subsequently stated<\/a>, after internal and external consultation, that SQA would adopt the nomenclature.<\/p>\n<p>So, today, I instigated changing the names of the verification groups to follow the advice in the Report. There are currently two Computing verification groups:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>357 Computing<\/li>\n<li>358 Information Systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This will become <strong>three <\/strong>groups:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>xxx Computer Science<\/li>\n<li>xxx Digital Literacy<\/li>\n<li>xxx Information Technology.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once these new groups have been established, I will assign units to each group and then assign External Verifiers to each group.<\/p>\n<p>The new nomenclature is clearer and better reflects the reality of the industry. It separates computer science from the other areas and makes a distinction between ICT skills (now &#8220;digital literacy&#8221;) and technical skills (now &#8220;information technology&#8221;).
