{"id":3633,"date":"2021-03-24T15:59:22","date_gmt":"2021-03-24T15:59:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sqablogs.lndo.site\/computing\/?p=3633"},"modified":"2021-03-24T15:59:22","modified_gmt":"2021-03-24T15:59:22","slug":"pilot-centres-for-hn-next-gen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.qualifications.gov.scot\/computing-digital\/pilot-centres-for-hn-next-gen\/","title":{"rendered":"Pilot centres for HN-Next Gen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Regular readers will know that we&#8217;re in the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.qualifications.gov.scot\/computing-digital\/writing-next-generation-higher-national-units\/\">process of developing<\/a> two new Higher National Qualifications: <strong>HNC Computing<\/strong> and <strong>HND Data Science<\/strong>. We&#8217;re hoping to pilot these qualifications in centres next session.\u00a0We&#8217;re currently looking for two centres for each qualification to test the prototypes. HNC Computing is based on the current HNC but the HND is new.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Next generation&#8221; HNs are different from current Higher National Qualifications in a number of respects including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>size<\/strong> &#8212; HNCs and HNDs are 15 credits<\/li>\n<li><strong>duration<\/strong> &#8212; HNDs are one year qualifications<\/li>\n<li><strong>grading<\/strong> &#8211; Next Gen qualifications will be graded differently<\/li>\n<li><strong>assessment<\/strong> &#8211; Next Gen qualifications will have less assessment &#8211; and more time for teaching<\/li>\n<li><strong>units<\/strong> &#8211; Next Gen qualifications will have fewer, larger units<\/li>\n<li><strong>specification<\/strong>: Next Gen qualifications and units are specified in a simpler, more open manner than current qualifications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We think that these new types of qualification will be better for teachers and learners. We&#8217;ll support pilot centres throughout the delivery of the qualifications, and pilot centres will play a vital role in providing feedback to SQA and improving the qualifications.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve asked College Principals to express their interest in getting involved by <strong>Friday, 26 March<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Regular readers will know that we&#8217;re in the process of developing two new Higher National Qualifications: HNC Computing and HND Data Science.
