SQA is working on new Computing qualifications as part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ltscotland.org.uk\/understandingthecurriculum\/whatiscurriculumforexcellence\/index.asp\">Curriculum for Excellence<\/a>, but there are already a large number of modern, engaging vocational qualifications available to centres. These include qualifications in <i>Computer Games Development<\/i>, <i>Social Software<\/i>, and <i>Digital Culture<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>I was disappointed to see the uptake figures for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sqa.org.uk\/sqa\/controller?p_service=Front.search&amp;pContentID=41454&amp;q=digital+culture&amp;search=Search\">Digital Culture units<\/a>. These are available at SCQF Levels 4-8 but the uptake is very low, in spite of these units containing up-to-date and engaging outcomes relating to the more interesting aspects of ICT, such as social networks, collaboration tools, and virtual worlds, such as <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Second_Life\">Second Life<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"mailto:hilary.weir@sqa.org.uk\">Contact Hilary<\/a> for NC units, up to SCQF Level 6, and <a href=\"mailto:caroline.douglas@sqa.org.uk\">contact Caroline<\/a>, for HN units at SCQF Levels 7 and up.
