We also decided on a lead developer, a retired university lecturer, who will lead the development.<\/p>\n<p>We discussed various aspects of the current award, including the role of maths within computer science and how the revised award should be structured &#8211; we decided on mandatory units, restricted options (where centres must choose a defined number of units from a limited list) and open options (where centres have complete freedom of choice).<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re using our new accelerated <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.qualifications.gov.scot\/computing\/qualification-development-process\/\">development process<\/a> for this review so we hope to have the revised award available to centres within six months (January 2018).<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not too late to join the QDT so please <a href=\"mailto:helen.zhang@sqa.org.uk\">contact Helen<\/a> if you&#8217;re interested in getting involved.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Qualification Development Team (QDT) for the review of HND Computer Science met for the first time on Friday.
