A Qualification Development Team (QDT) has been created and met, for the first time, in late November when we discussed the broad nature and contents of the suite of awards. Shortly after that meeting, we selected a lead developer, who has a lot of experience in this field.

We have now agreed the structure of each qualification, which you can see here, and we’ve recently selected unit writers and vetters for each unit. The create of qualification frameworks is an important milestone in a development. The Level 7 award has been designed to be accessible to everyone. We hope that it will be attractive to data workers who don’t want to be experts in data analysis but want well developed data skills that they can apply to their jobs. The Level 9 award has been designed for data professionals — people who want to specialise in data science/data analysis either as a career-change or to train in the field for future employment. The Level 8 award is a mix of both. We designed it to be accessible to potential data workers (who want enhanced data skills) and potential data professionals.

The next stage is to write the unit specifications, which is a time-consuming part of any development. I hope to have this completed by mid-June.

The final stage of the development process is validation, when a group of independent experts will scrutinise our proposals, and advise us about required or recommended changes. The validation event will take place late June. The qualification will be available to centres from August.

Please contact Emma if you want to know more about this development.

We’ve made considerable progress with this development since I first announced it, late last year.
