We\u2019re proud that Gaelic learners across the country have embraced the opportunity to study the language at school, and that they are now helping to sustain the language in their chosen careers.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Qualification Scotland\u2019s commitment to Gaelic Medium Education (GME)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>As we celebrate Seachdain na G\u00e0idhlig, we\u2019re proud to highlight our involvement in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/publications\/national-improvement-framework-plan-2025-update-activity\/pages\/3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Curriculum Improvement Cycle (CIC) for Literacy &amp; G\u00e0idhlig<\/a> &#8211; an ongoing, collaborative review process established to ensure that the school curriculum in Scotland remains modern, relevant, and effectively delivered.<\/p>\n<p>The CIC is taking an evidence-based approach to curriculum improvement, drawing on research, inspection findings, and crucially, the voices of children and young people.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re particularly enthusiastic about the CIC&#8217;s focus on high-quality language development coupled with cultural awareness \u2013 an approach that recognises Gaelic as both a living language and a vibrant culture.<\/p>\n<p>This work matters. It&#8217;s about creating better opportunities for our young people and supporting the future of our Gaelic language. Together, we can ensure that curriculum design and assessment support everyone involved in Gaelic education, from early years through to qualifications.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Your stories: creating opportunities through qualifications<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Our commitment to Gaelic is not just at a strategy level \u2013 it has real impact for individual learners and today felt like the best time to celebrate your stories.<\/p>\n<p>From beginners to fluent speakers, learners in Scotland\u2019s secondary schools are able to pursue the language through our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sqa.org.uk\/sqa\/74312.6133.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gaelic (Learners) qualifications<\/a> \u00a0and our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sqa.org.uk\/sqa\/45675.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">G\u00e0idhlig qualifications<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><em>Koren\u2019s story<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>At school, Koren achieved a National 5 Eachdraidh (History) and a Higher and Advanced Higher in G\u00e0idhlig.<\/p>\n<p>She now works as a Youth Development Officer for Comunn na G\u00e0idhlig (CnaG), which sees her provide exciting and engaging activities for young people in schools, all through the medium of Gaelic.<\/p>\n<p>Koren said: \u201cGaelic is at the heart of who I am. It carries our history, culture, and shared experiences \u2013 all things you can truly understand when you have the language.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><em>Fionnlagh\u2019s story<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>Fionnlagh studied Advanced Higher in G\u00e0idhlig at school, which led to him achieving a Degree in G\u00e0idhlig from Glasgow University.<\/p>\n<p>Based in Stornoway, he\u2019s now employed as a Gaelic Information and Evaluation Officer with Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (CNES).<\/p>\n<p>Fionnlagh is passionate about the importance of Gaelic: \u201cIt\u2019s our own language, which has come down to us from our ancestors to this day. It is our duty now to bring this precious language, heritage and culture to life in our own generation, and to pass it on to every generation that comes after us.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><em>Maia\u2019s story<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>Maia completed Higher G\u00e0idhlig at school and is currently working towards a Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ). She undertook the practical element of the qualification during her time as a Gaelic Language Acquisition Practitioner, introducing Gaelic to primary school pupils across the Isle of Lewis.<\/p>\n<p>She continues to be an ambassador for the language in her current role as Development Officer at F\u00e8isean nan G\u00e0idheal, an organisation which promotes the development of community-based Gaelic arts tuition festivals throughout Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>Maia is in no doubt about the advantages of learning Gaelic<em>: \u201c<\/em>It gives you a strong connection to your own culture, and practical skills that open up work opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s clear these qualifications are leading to exciting careers, which are allowing people share their love of the language with others.
