{"id":102,"date":"2015-10-29T15:40:45","date_gmt":"2015-10-29T15:40:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.qualifications.gov.scot\/scottishstudies\/?p=102"},"modified":"2015-10-29T15:40:45","modified_gmt":"2015-10-29T15:40:45","slug":"asls-event-scotland-in-focus-saturday-nov-7th-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.qualifications.gov.scot\/scottishstudies\/2015\/10\/29\/asls-event-scotland-in-focus-saturday-nov-7th-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"ASLS Event: Scotland in Focus &#8211; Saturday Nov 7th, 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is a reminder\u00a0about\u00a0the ASLS\u00a0Scottish Studies event\u00a0&#8216;Scotland in Focus&#8217;, which will take place between 10.00 and 16.00 hrs on Saturday 7th November in the Fore Hall, Main Building, University of Glasgow.<\/p>\n<p>We are delighted that such\u00a0a\u00a0variety\u00a0of expert and well-known speakers\u00a0will be sharing\u00a0their ideas about flexible approaches\u00a0to\u00a0teaching<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>Scotland in Focus, <\/em>the mandatory unit in levels 3 &#8211; 6 of the Scottish Studies award.\u00a0The speakers will cover a\u00a0wide range of Scottish topics, from\u00a0Gaelic, Scots, placenames, folk song and\u00a0history\u00a0to\u00a0iconic paintings. An overview of contemporary Scottish culture will also be given and there will be\u00a0the opportunity to ask questions of the speakers in a final plenary session.<\/p>\n<p>Elaine Snell, SQA&#8217;s Qualifications Manager for Scottish Studies\u00a0will begin the day by talking in general terms about the awards and\u00a0both she and I\u00a0are looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible during what we are sure will be a very enjoyable and informative day.<\/p>\n<p>The cost is \u00a335 (\u00a330 if you are a member of ASLS) and a link to further information and the booking form can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/asls.arts.gla.ac.uk\/LangConf.html\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Finally,\u00a0here is another reminder that there are still places available for the Understanding Standards events for the Scottish Studies and Scots Language Awards on Wed 27th January 2016. There will be\u00a0two workshops for each award: one in the morning and one in the afternoon, to allow delegates to visit both if they wish. The events will be held\u00a0in Glasgow at the\u00a0Crowne Plaza\u00a0Hotel.
