I’m delighted to let you know that Caroline has got a promotion within SQA to a new role in the Assessment Development & Delivery team. She will be involved in supporting the development of the SOLAR system. Caroline will be sorely missed by me and the wider Computing community. She has been supporting Computing qualifications for over 10 years now, first as an administrator and then as a Qualifications Officer. I know that staff in centres think very highly of her.…

I’ve been working on the update letter for non-advanced qualifications recently, and today I asked Helen to arrange for its distribution to centres. As many of you know, I send a letter about non-advanced awards (NU/NPA/NC) and a letter about advanced awards (HNU/HNC/HND/PDA) to centres every year. These letters summarise the developments that have taken place over the previous 12 months. There is nothing in either letter that regular readers of this blog don’t already know. In fact, they contain a…

We went along to the annual External Verifier (EV) update meeting on Saturday. This year’s event was chaired by the new Senior External Verifier for Computing. The role of the Senior EV has changed. It’s now more of a leadership role than a bureaucratic one. The purpose of the annual update is to ensure that EVs are familiar with procedures, and that they all apply the same standards during their visits to centres. A wide range of issues were discussed at…

It’s a good team, consisting of representatives schools, colleges, universities, professional bodies and employers, with a wealth of knowledge and experience in this field. The meeting covered the role of the QDT, the qualification development process, and tasks and timescales. We had a particularly good conversation about what should be in the…

I previously mentioned a new service called uShare, which is designed to help you find resources for delivering SQA qualifications. I’m pleased to tell you that two Computing qualifications are now available on that service. The NPAs in Cyber Security and Digital Passport now have resources listed for them. You can access the resources on the home page for each qualification. The Cyber Security page is here and the Digital Passport page is here (scroll to the bottom to see the resources). Some (not…
