The validation event for the NPAs in Cyber Security took place yesterday in Glasgow. I am delighted to report that the award was validated, subject to a couple of conditions and recommendations. The purpose of validation is for fresh eyes to check the proposed qualification. Members of the Validation Panel must have had no involvement in the qualification development. A validation event is a meeting of peers (it’s not an inspection of a proposed award) with the aim of making it…

I’m speaking today at a workshop, in Glasgow, organised by Education Scotland. The event is intended to raise awareness of the Cyber Security Badge, designed by Kyle Academy and Police Scotland, and the new NPAs in Cyber Security. There was a fantastic turnout, with standing room only at the event. There is clearly a lot of interest in this area. I opened the workshop with an explanation of what’s in the new awards. I’ve been meaning to find the time to update you about PC Passport. This award has been under review since January, when the first QDT meeting took place. We’ve made a lot of progress since then. The qualification FAQ summarises the current state of the development. We’ve agreed a structure (at all three levels) and we are currently writing the units. They’re coming along well. We hope to validate the qualification late 2015 and have it available to centres from January…

Cyber Security survey
As part of their role in developing qualifications, Qualification Development Teams (QDTs) must also carry out research to check that their proposals have broad support across the sector. The QDT for Cyber Security has recently created a survey about their current proposals. You can find it here. It will only take a few minutes to complete. I’d appreciate if you would provide feedback.
We’re getting a lot of enquiries about this development so I thought that it would be a good idea to post an update. The qualification is currently being developed. We have decided the structure and we are presently writing the units. The validation event will take place on 25 June, chaired by Professor Bill Buchanan of Napier University. The qualification will be available to centres from 1 August. Please contact Helen for more information.
